Sustainable Garden Design

Contemporary Landscaping builds sustainable gardens which starts with appropriate designs for a time in which water is a precious commodity. Firstly we always test the existing soil then provide a road map to building soil health through an active soil food web, ensuring maximum water retention on the property.

We then offer designs for your garden that incorporate drought tolerant plants suited for the Puget Sound region. This xeriscaping can be a hundred percent of the design or a portion of it. In making over an existing landscape it can be replacing a traditional rye and fescue lawn with water conserving alternatives or revamping a perennial flower bed with equally floriferous but drought tolerant species.

In keeping with much of the Puget Sound, and much of the U.S, we design meadow/prairie inspired plantings tailored to the property at hand. This style of plant grouping is incorporated into our specialty "natural planting" which uses a large percentage of low water perennials, grasses and shrubs combined in natural repeating blocks of intermingling and complimentary design. These plants are chosen to have four seasons of interest whilst conserving our water supply.

Every garden is designed to reflect the owners interests and unique tastes whether that is:

Bold and Brilliant, Traditional and Structured, Modern, Old English Cottage style or Northwest Native plantings. At Contemporary Landscaping we design with an eye for uniqueness, color and seasonal interest.

Whether your interest lies in growing your own vegetables, or have always dreamed of the perfect outdoor room for entertaining we have the experience with plants and structures to bring together all the elements of design with your budget in mind, for a finished landscape that brings tranquility, enjoyment and value.

At Contemporary Landscaping we work with the style of your home, your tastes and surroundings to bring a cohesive landscape to life.

 Bold and Brilliant

Using complimentary striking colors and interesting structural forms balanced with green foliage a garden or a portion of a design can demand attention whilst still being harmonious. Deep reds, rich purples, dark browns and burnt orange, six foot tall perennials or glossy emerald green foliage whatever is your personal style it can be carefully tied together to coordinate as much as stand out.
